Why did it take more than two years for the British and the Americans to agree to the terms of the Treaty of Paris 1783?

I remember that it followed the Battle of Yorktown and the British knew they could not defeat the colonists so they talked it out and the delegates of the colonists signed an agreement but it took about a year for all the parties to agree to it in 1783.
I may have left out a few details or it may be completely incorrect, but I think it’s right.
